Darren J Doherty CPAg AIA CV

Darren J. Doherty, CPAgAIA (1967- ) has extensive experience across the world in project design, development, management & training. Starting out as a professional agricultural landscape planner at the age of 25 in 1993, his 30+ year career focus has been on the practical, pragmatic, profitable & regenerative retrofit of broadacre landscapes, and for decades Darren has been internationally acclaimed as a pioneer in this important & often overlooked field.

With his founding of the Regrarians Ltd. non-profit in 2013, Darren shifted his service profile to being that organisation’s principal extensionalist, and is a leading attendee at conventions and conferences organised in conjunction with local organisations, companies and individuals all over the globe.

An autodidactic polymath, Darren is a 5th generation Bendigo-region land manager, developer, author & trainer and has been involved in the design & development of well over 3000, mostly broadacre projects across 6 continents in more than 50 countries, ranging from 1 million hectare cattle stations in Australia’s Kimberly region to 110,000 acre Estancia’s in Patagonia, EcoVillage developments in Tasmania to public:private R&D agroforestry, agro-commodity & education projects in Viet Nam and India, novel AG Machinery development + family farms across the globe with a range of private, corporate, government & non-profit clients.

A true ‘integrationalist’, Darren is the originator of the Keyline® Design (2006), Soil Water & Carbon for Every Farm (2007), Carbon Farming (2008), Carbon Economy (2008), Regenerative Agriculture (along with RegenAG® {2009}) & Regrarians® (2012) and Regrarians’ REX®, ROC & RAP conventions and conferences across Europe, North & South America and Oceania.

This wide experience has created an international reputation of achievement plus and enviable & expansive Regrarians Network that integrates many disciplines. Globally many of Darren’s alumni of more than 20,000 people are at the cutting edge of the movement towards regenerative agriculture & living systems.

Now at 58 years of age, Darren is the originator of the Regrarians Platform® process which outlines a strategic & logical process to the development of regenerative agricultural systems and is the program extensively outlined in the 1500+ page Regrarians Handbook which is now being released chapter by chapter as an eBook; along with the Regrarians Workspace which is the online content management and professional liaison platform for all client, associate, training and alumni relations.

Darren is married to Lisa Heenan & together they have three adult children, Isaebella (1993-), Pearl (1999-) & Zane (2001-), all of whom are involved in the operation of Regrarians Ltd. and the private company that manages Regrarians: HeenanDoherty Pty. Ltd. and its professional consultancy, ‘Regrarians Land Planning’.

Progressions

2026

  • A year where so far we have been building elements that serve us first and serving others second. The prime example being the R-Earth precision farm planning software which we developed for ourselves until it was very clear this was going to a game-changer for integrated farm planning the world over. R-Earth started life as a browser version and is nearing its release in desktop format in the middle of this year. Otherwise the feedback from the market and members with 40% of Planners staying on beyond the 12 month minimum, and 100 Regrarians Planner Members for the first time since 2018.

  • 7•Fencing Chapter of the Regrarians Handbook released

  • Design, Development & Manufacture of the Regrarians® Ripper Rotor MK2 (Australia)

  • REX Online Farm Planning Program – R16 – 14 week

2025

  • 8th World Tour, expanding into central and eastern Europe for the first time while returning to Mallorca after 11 years. Start working with Covalent Land Australia to support their carbon agroforestry projects. Regrarians Ltd. running at 40% below budget at start of year and we turn this around by mid-year thanks to a new website and recalibration of offering. The Regrarians Base Map Service was one example of our change in posture in this space, with more to come.

2021

  • The Covid-19 pandemic rages on and I find myself being an advisor to local hospitality businesses who aren’t able to keep up with the ever changing directives of the Victoria Government’s Chief Health Officer. Cream Town is actively labelled as the ‘Covid Café’ due to its decision to become a take-away when ‘vaccine’ passports are required for sit down service. And for being a non-discriminatory safe space for local workers who lost their jobs for not being illegally coerced into being injected with untested injectables.

2020

  • Planned another expanded REXi world tour and then in March of that year the Covid-19 pandemic causes domestic and international travel restrictions. Our adult children all lose their jobs. Opened ‘Cream Town’ Organic Restaurant & Café in Castlemaine (closed in June 2024) which we all work in and becomes the new office for Regrarians Ltd.

  • REX Online Farm Planning Program – R6 – 13 week

2011

  • Bruce Ward invited me to deliver a private farm planning program for Holistic Management Certified Educators—directly leading to the development of the ‘10 layer ‘Regen10’, which in 2013 became the Regrarians Platform®. Ran the 1st (and only) RegenAG® World Tour. Later in the year I led the first ever RAD program in England—the 7 day precursor to the 10 day REX® program in 2016. Relinquished the RegenAG® brand I originated to RegenAG Ltd. in Australia to focus on the development of what became Regrarians the next year (2012).
